Echoing Strike Warlock Build Guide — Eldritch Melee

By the DiabloBytes team · Updated March 2026

Overview

The Echoing Strike Warlock is the Eldritch Spells flagship build — a melee-magic hybrid that creates weapon echoes piercing through enemies. Each swing projects spectral copies of your weapon that shred through tightly packed mobs, dealing magic damage scaled by Mirrored Blades and Blade Warp synergies. The build combines fast weapon attacks enhanced by Hex: Bane with the echo projections of Echoing Strike for a playstyle that rewards positioning and weapon choice above raw gear investment.

The Maxroll-verified synergy formula: Echoing Strike base magic damage is increased by 5% per point in Mirrored Blades and Blade Warp. Additional projectiles are gained every 5 levels in Mirrored Blades. This means maxing both synergies doubles the damage and significantly increases the echo projectile count — the build scales hard with investment. Hex: Bane applies a weapon hex that adds magic damage and improves attack rating, making it the critical setup tool for every engagement.

Endgame-geared, this build farms A-tier content efficiently. Budget versions using Insight and Spirit are fully functional through Hell. The Echoing Strike Warlock is an excellent choice for players who prefer active melee gameplay over passive casting.

Skill Allocation

Max (20 points each)

Echoing Strike — 20 points

Primary attack. Creates weapon echoes that pierce through enemies, dealing magic damage. +30% damage, +10% AR per level. Each echo pierces through all targets in its path.

Mirrored Blades — 20 points (synergy)

Each point adds +5% to Echoing Strike's base magic damage. Every 5 skill levels adds an additional echo projectile. At 20 points, Echoing Strike gains +100% base damage and 4 additional projectiles from this skill alone.

Blade Warp — 20 points (synergy)

Hurls an astral weapon and teleports you to the impact point. Each point adds +5% to Echoing Strike's base magic damage as a synergy. Also provides an excellent repositioning tool — use it to teleport into packs before engaging with Echoing Strike.

Hex: Bane — 20 points

Weapon hex. Adds magic damage to your attacks and grants +20% Attack Rating. 144-second duration. Keep this hex active at all times — it's your primary damage enhancer and the foundation of all Eldritch melee builds. Higher levels increase the magic damage bonus.

1 Point (Prerequisites & Utility)

Levitation Mastery — 1 point (passive)

Passive: +25% damage, +40% AR, +5% crit, -2% weapon requirements. Even a single hard point provides significant bonuses. Scale with +skills gear.

Cleave — 1 point

AoE arc attack. +50% AR, +13% attack speed, +20% damage. Useful for hitting multiple clustered enemies when echoes aren't ideal. One point with +skills is sufficient.

Psychic Ward — 1 point

Mental shield that absorbs incoming damage and stuns melee attackers. Your panic button. One point with +skills gives a useful damage absorption window on a short cooldown.

Eldritch Blast — 1 point

Blasts hexed enemies, draining them and refreshing the hex duration. One point is sufficient — cast it to extend your Hex: Bane duration during long fights without recasting the full hex.

Demon Tree (Remaining Points)

Invest remaining points into the Demon tree for passive bonuses and utility: Demonic Mastery (passive), Blood Oath (passive damage reduction), Death Mark (direct demon attack), Summon Goatman, Consume (sacrifice demon for life/run/walk buffs). These provide survival and utility without diverting from the core Eldritch investment.

Stat Points

Strength Enough to meet gear requirements (~177 for endgame BiS). Factor in bonuses from items before investing base points.
Dexterity Base (approximately 25) or up to 60 if you want a modest AR buffer. Levitation Mastery's +40% AR bonus and Hex: Bane's +20% AR reduce the need for base DEX investment.
Vitality All remaining points. You're a melee build — life is your survival margin. Target 2,000+ life with gear.
Energy Base. Mana costs are manageable with +mana from gear and life/mana after kill from Hex: Siphon (optional 1pt).

Gear — Budget

Helm

Budget: Vampire Gaze — life leech, damage reduction, cold resist. Solid survivability helm before BiS.

Weapon

Budget: Insight (polearm/2H) + Spirit (offhand grimoire) — Meditation aura solves mana, Spirit gives FCR/+skills. The Warlock can wield two-handed weapons with an offhand grimoire.

Armor

Budget: Skin of the Vipermagi — +1 All Skills, 30% FCR, magic resist. Excellent before Enigma or Fortitude.

Gloves

Budget & Best: Laying of Hands — 20% IAS, +350% damage to demons, fire resistance. Effectively BiS across all budget tiers for this melee build.

Boots

Budget & Best: Gore Rider — Crushing Blow, Deadly Strike, Open Wounds. These apply to every melee swing with Echoing Strike, making them the best boots regardless of budget.

Belt

Budget: Arachnid Mesh — +1 All Skills, 20% FCR, Slow Target. Universally strong.

Amulet

Budget: Highlord's Wrath — +1 All Skills, 20% IAS, Deadly Strike. The IAS and skills combo is excellent for melee.

Rings

Budget: FCR ring + Bul-Kathos Wedding Band (+1 skills, life). Alternatively Sling (unique ring, lvl 50) for -enemy magic resist, FCR, Slow Target.

Gear — Best in Slot

Helm

Best: Hellwarden's Will (Death Mask, lvl 50) — +1 All Skills, +20% IAS, +20% FCR, -enemy magic resist, -enemy fire resist. The class-specific helm for this build. Socket with a high-damage jewel.

Weapon

Best: Fortitude (runeword in a 2H weapon — El+Sol+Dol+Lo) — +300% ED, 20% IAS, all resistances, damage reduction. Massive physical damage amplifier. Fortitude in a War Pike or Colossus Voulge pairs with a Spirit grimoire offhand.

Rings

Best: Raven Frost (cannot be frozen, AR bonus) + Skull Whorl or Sling ring (-enemy magic resist) for maximum magic damage penetration.

Charms

Annihilus, Hellfire Torch, Warlock combat grand charms (Eldritch or Demon tree skillers), small charms with life/resist/max damage. Entropy Locket (Amulet, lvl 54) is an alternative to Highlord's for builds using Miasma Chain — adds 4% Miasma Chain on striking, FCR, and magic skill damage.

Mercenary

Act 2 Nightmare Offensive (Might aura) is the standard choice. Might amplifies the physical damage component of Echoing Strike directly.

Merc Weapon

Best: Pride (Cham+Sur+Io+Lo in polearm) — Concentration aura gives +200-220% damage boost to you. Budget: Insight — Meditation aura solves all mana problems.

Merc Helm

Best: Andariel's Visage (socketed Ral) — life leech, IAS, +skills. Budget: Any helm with life leech.

Merc Armor

Best: Chains of Honor — +2 All Skills, all res, damage reduction. Budget: Treachery — Fade proc for resistance, IAS for the merc's attack speed.

Synergy Deep Dive

Echoing Strike's magic damage formula is driven by two synergies: Mirrored Blades and Blade Warp. Each point in either skill adds +5% to Echoing Strike's base magic damage. With 20 points in each, that's +100% from Mirrored Blades and +100% from Blade Warp — a total of +200% base magic damage from synergies alone, tripling the base output.

The additional projectile mechanic from Mirrored Blades is the AoE amplifier: every 5 levels in Mirrored Blades adds one extra echo projectile. At level 20 Mirrored Blades, you gain 4 bonus projectiles. Each projectile pierces independently through enemies — in dense packs, a single Echoing Strike swing with all projectiles can hit every enemy in a corridor multiple times. This is where the build's clear speed comes from.

Playstyle Tips

  • Apply Hex: Bane before engaging any pack — it lasts 144 seconds at base, longer with +skills. Never fight without the hex active.
  • Use Blade Warp to teleport into dense pack centers before swinging Echoing Strike — echoes project outward from your position through all enemies in range.
  • Positioning matters: swing from the edge of a pack so echoes pass through maximum enemies rather than projecting into open space.
  • Psychic Ward is your emergency button — activate it when a dangerous boss pack threatens to burst you down before you can leech back.
  • Eldritch Blast refreshes your Hex: Bane duration on hexed targets — cast it during long boss fights to avoid recasting the full hex.
  • Consume (1pt Demon tree) sacrifices a summoned demon for life, run/walk speed, and other buffs — use it before tough encounters to maximize your health going in.

Leveling Progression

Levels 1–11 — Invest in Hex: Bane (available lvl 1) and Levitation Mastery passive. Use Cleave for AoE. The hex's magic damage supplement makes early kills efficient.
Levels 12–17 — Echoing Strike unlocks at level 12. Begin investing here immediately. Mirrored Blades also unlocks at 12 — alternate points between the two.
Levels 18–29 — Blade Warp (lvl 18) unlocks your second synergy and repositioning tool. Start alternating between Echoing Strike, Mirrored Blades, and Blade Warp. Echo projectile count grows noticeably.
Levels 30+ — Finish maxing all three core skills and Hex: Bane. Invest remaining points into Demon tree utility (Demonic Mastery, Blood Oath, Consume, Death Mark). Target gear with IAS, +skills, and -enemy magic resist.

Best Farming Areas

CHAOS SANCTUARY

Dense corridors and packed enemy groups create ideal conditions for maximum echo projectile hits. The magic damage from Echoing Strike deals consistent damage against all enemy types here with no immunity concerns.

WORLDSTONE KEEP / THRONE OF DESTRUCTION

High monster density, excellent experience, top-tier drops. Echo projectiles hit multiple targets simultaneously in the narrow passages of the Keep.

TRAVINCAL

Council Members cluster tightly. High rune drop rate. A fast Travincal route with Blade Warp teleporting between groups is one of the best rune farming patterns for this build.
