D2R Crafting Guide: Blood, Caster, Hit Power & Safety Recipes
By the DiabloBytes team · Updated March 2026
Crafting in Diablo II: Resurrected is the endgame within the endgame. While unique and runeword items have fixed stats, crafted items roll random affixes on top of guaranteed fixed mods — creating the potential for items that surpass anything else in the game. A perfect Caster Amulet with +2 skills, 20% FCR, life, and resistances is the most valuable amulet in D2R, period.
This guide covers every crafting recipe category with all fixed mods verified against game data, optimal character levels for crafting, and Sundering Charm penalties. For the interactive recipe lookup tool, see our Horadric Cube Calculator.
How Item Crafting Works
Crafting uses the Horadric Cube to combine a magic (blue) base item, a specific rune, a perfect gem, and any jewel. The result is a new item with orange text — a crafted item that has:
- ◆ Guaranteed fixed mods Every craft type adds 3 guaranteed stats (e.g., Caster Amulet always gives Mana Regen + Mana + FCR). Safety armor pieces get 4 fixed mods. These are always present.
- ◆ 1-4 random affixes Additional prefixes and suffixes from the magic item pool. Getting 4 random affixes is the jackpot — it means up to 7 total mods (3 fixed + 4 random).
- ◆ No charsi food guarantee Most crafts will be junk. Expect to craft hundreds before hitting something great. Gambling with extra steps.
Crafting Item Level Formula
The item level of a crafted item is calculated as:
ilvl = floor(clvl / 2) + floor(base_ilvl / 2) This matters because higher ilvl unlocks more powerful affix tiers. For the coveted +2 class skills affix on amulets, you need an ilvl of 90+. The practical implication:
Item Craft Categories
There are four crafting categories, each using a different perfect gem and producing different fixed mods. Caster crafts dominate the meta, but Blood and Safety crafts have their niches.
Blood Crafts
Physical damage and life leech. Best for melee builds — Barbarians, Paladins, Amazons.
Caster Crafts
Mana regeneration and mana pool. The most popular crafting category — Caster Amulets and Belts get FCR as a fixed mod.
Hit Power Crafts
Frost Nova on being struck and Attacker Takes Damage. Niche but useful for melee and tanking builds.
Safety Crafts
Damage reduction and defense. Hardcore and tank builds value these highly. All armor pieces get 4 fixed mods.

What to Actually Craft
Don't waste materials crafting everything. Focus your efforts on the items with the highest ceiling:
Caster Amulet
The single most crafted item in D2R. Perfect roll is +2 skills, 20% FCR, 60+ life, 20+ all res, strength. Worth more than Mara's Kaleidoscope in every scenario. Craft at level 93+.
Blood Gloves
Crushing Blow gloves with life leech. Best-in-slot for Smiter (Uber Tristram killer). Fixed: 3% life leech, +20 life, 10% CB. Dream random rolls add 20% IAS and resistances.
Caster Belt
One of only two Caster crafts with FCR as a fixed mod (along with Amulet). FCR belt for Necro and Sorc trying to hit the next breakpoint. Arachnid Mesh is better but this is accessible while farming for it.
Blood Ring
Life leech ring with strength. Good for physical builds that need leech in the ring slot. Fixed leech + strength, with random affixes potentially adding AR and more.
Safety Amulet
Damage reduction amulet for hardcore characters. Fixed: DR 1-4, Magic DR 1-2, +block chance. Add life and resists from random affixes.
Sundering Charms
Sundering Charms break monster immunities by reducing their resistance below the 100% threshold. Each charm targets one element. While the immunity is sundered, your damage (plus Lower Resist, Conviction, etc.) can then reduce the monster's resistance further. The trade-off: your own resistances are reduced — elemental charms lower your resist by 70-90%, Bone Break reduces your physical damage reduction by 10-20%, and Black Cleft reduces your magic resist by 45-65%.

What is the best item to craft in D2R?
Caster Amulets are universally considered the best craft. A perfect roll — +2 class skills, 20% FCR, life, resistances, and strength — is worth more than almost any unique amulet. The fixed FCR mod plus random affixes create the highest ceiling of any crafted item.
What character level do I need for optimal crafts?
For Caster Amulets, character level 93+ is optimal. The item level of a craft equals (clvl/2) + (ilvl/2). To unlock all possible affixes (including +2 skills), you need an ilvl of 90+. At clvl 93, even a low-ilvl base amulet reaches this threshold.
Do crafted items always have the fixed mods?
Yes. Every crafted item receives the fixed mods guaranteed (e.g., Caster Amulet always gets Regenerate Mana, +Mana, and FCR). On top of those, 1-4 random affixes are added — prefixes and suffixes from the magic item pool. The more random affixes, the more valuable the craft.
Can crafted items get 6 affixes?
Yes! The fixed mods don't count toward the 4 random affix limit. A crafted item can have its 3 fixed mods (or 4 for Safety armor) plus up to 4 random affixes (2 prefix, 2 suffix), giving it up to 7 total mods — more than a rare item. This is why the best crafts beat the best rares.
Where do Sundering Charms drop?
Sundering Charms are unique Grand Charms that only drop in Terror Zones. Any monster in a Terror Zone can drop them. They require character level 75 to equip.
How many fixed mods do crafted items have?
Most crafted items have 3 fixed mods. Safety armor pieces (helm, boots, gloves, belt, shield, body armor) have 4 fixed mods each. On top of the fixed mods, crafted items also roll 1-4 random affixes from the magic item pool.
