Diablo Clone (Uber Diablo): The Complete Guide
By the DiabloBytes team · Updated March 2026 · Live data powered by D2RuneWizard API
The Diablo Clone — also known as Uber Diablo — is one of the most iconic community events in Diablo II: Resurrected. Unlike any other boss in the game, DClone doesn't exist at a fixed location waiting to be found. He appears through collective player action: when enough Stones of Jordan are sold to vendors on a single server, Diablo himself walks the Earth, spawning in every active game simultaneously. The reward for killing him — the Annihilus small charm — is the most powerful charm in the game and cannot be obtained any other way.
Understanding the Diablo Clone event means understanding a system that blends economy, community coordination, and combat into a single emergent mechanic. This guide covers everything from the SOJ selling mechanics that trigger DClone's spawn to the gear and strategy needed to kill him solo, with live server progress tracking via the D2RuneWizard API.
What is the Diablo Clone?
The Diablo Clone is a souped-up version of Diablo himself — same model, same attacks, dramatically higher stats. He is essentially Diablo with the health pool and damage of an Uber boss. In D2R, he is classified as a Super Unique monster and appears by replacing another Super Unique monster in your game when the server-wide trigger fires.
DClone is immune to Fire, Cold, and Lightning. He is not immune to Physical or Poison damage. His primary attacks are melee strikes (massive physical damage), a Fire Nova (large fire AoE), and a Lightning Breath (directional lightning projectile). He also casts Bone Prison to immobilize players and uses a ground stomp that deals physical damage.
His monster level in Hell is 110 — higher than any other monster in the base game. This means he has exceptional health, damage, and resistances. A poorly geared character will be one-shot by his melee attacks. Preparation is mandatory.
History of the Mechanic
The Diablo Clone event was introduced in Diablo II Patch 1.10 in 2003. At launch, D2 had a severe Stone of Jordan duplication problem — duped SOJs flooded every server, making the item worthless. Blizzard's solution was elegant: make selling SOJs trigger a community event. Suddenly, SOJs had value not just as items but as event tokens. Players coordinated on forums to sell them in waves, creating the first genuine server-wide community event in an ARPG.
In Diablo II: Resurrected, the mechanic was preserved but adapted for modern server architecture. D2R uses a different server structure than the original Battle.net, with separate tracking for Americas, Europe, and Asia regions, and separate counters for Ladder Softcore, Ladder Hardcore, Non-Ladder Softcore, and Non-Ladder Hardcore. With the Reign of the Warlock expansion, RotW and LoD realms are completely separated, bringing the total to 24 independent servers. Each server has its own DClone progress counter that resets after a spawn.
D2R also made progress visible through an in-game message system and community tracking tools. The D2RuneWizard API, which powers the live tracker on this page, aggregates this data and provides real-time progress for all 24 servers across both expansions.
How the DClone Event Works
The mechanic is straightforward: players sell Stones of Jordan to any vendor in Hell difficulty. Each sale increments a server-side counter. When this counter crosses certain thresholds, the game broadcasts a message to all active games on that server indicating the progress stage. At stage 6, DClone spawns in every active game simultaneously.
The key detail: DClone doesn't appear at a fixed location. He replaces the next Super Unique monster you personally encounter in your game. If you're standing in Act 1 town when DClone spawns, you need to go find a Super Unique to trigger the encounter. The most popular approach is to position yourself near Pindleskin (through the Anya portal in Act 5 town) before stage 6 hits, so you can immediately engage DClone the moment he spawns.
Important: DClone only spawns once per game instance. If you kill him in a game, you cannot encounter him again in that same game. You must create a new game and wait for the next DClone event. Each kill can yield one Annihilus charm.
The 6 Progress Stages
When DClone progress advances, the game broadcasts one of six messages to all active games on the server. These messages appear in the game chat and are the primary in-game indicator of progress:
Early progress. Many SOJs have been sold but DClone is still far off. Continue farming normally.
Progress accumulating. Still safe to play normally. Watch the tracker if you want to prepare.
Halfway there. Community selling is ramping up. Start preparing your DClone kit if you want to fight him.
DClone is close. Serious players are coordinating SOJ sells to push to stage 6. Get your gear ready.
Imminent. One more wave of SOJ sells will trigger the spawn. Be in a game you're ready to fight in.
DClone has spawned. The next Super Unique monster you encounter in YOUR game will be Diablo Clone. Hunt him down.
SOJ Selling Mechanics
The Stone of Jordan (SOJ) is a unique ring that provides +1 to All Skill Levels, +20 to Mana, and increases maximum Mana by 25%. It has been a core trading currency since the original Diablo II. Its role in the DClone event was an intentional design choice to give the ring additional value beyond its stats.
Who sells SOJs? Any player in Hell difficulty can sell a SOJ to any vendor. The sell must happen in Hell — Normal and Nightmare sales do not count. Each SOJ sold increments the counter by one, regardless of who sells it or where they are in the game.
Community coordination: The DClone event is inherently communal. On active servers, players coordinate on Discord, Reddit, and in-game to time SOJ sells. The strategy is usually: sell SOJs in waves to push from stage 5 to stage 6 quickly, giving the community time to prepare at their preferred Super Unique location before DClone spawns.
How many SOJs? The exact threshold is not public, but community estimates suggest it takes roughly 75-120 SOJ sales per stage transition, with the total from stage 1 to stage 6 being several hundred SOJs. On active ladder servers at the start of a season, DClone can spawn within the first few days as the economy floods with SOJs.
Region and Ladder Differences
D2R tracks DClone progress independently across 24 servers (12 per expansion):
Progress on the Americas Ladder Softcore server has zero impact on Europe or Asia servers. Each server has its own SOJ counter, its own progress stage, and its own DClone spawns. If you play on Americas Ladder Softcore, only SOJ sells from players on that same server affect your DClone progress.
The live tracker on this page shows Ladder Softcore progress for all three regions by default, as these are the most populated servers. The full API data includes all 24 servers across both expansions.

The Annihilus Charm
The Annihilus is the only item in the game that drops exclusively from the Diablo Clone. It is a Small Charm — taking up one inventory slot — with the following stats:
Annihilus — Small Charm
Stats are rolled randomly within the listed ranges when the charm drops. Higher rolls are obviously better.
A perfect Annihilus (+1 skills, +20 all attributes, +20 all resistances, +10% experience) is one of the most sought-after items in the game. The +1 to All Skills effectively gives every character class an extra skill level across the board. The resistance bonus fills gaps in builds that struggle to cap at 75% in Hell. The experience bonus, while modest, accelerates level 99 grinding over time.
Every endgame character wants an Annihilus. There are no exceptions. A bad roll (+10 attributes, +10 resistances, +5% experience) is still worth equipping over any other small charm because the +1 skills alone outweigh everything else.
How to Kill Diablo Clone
DClone is immune to Fire, Cold, and Lightning — which eliminates most Sorceress builds, Javazon, and other elemental specialists. The primary damage types that work are Physical and Poison. The most popular DClone killers are:
Hammerdin (Blessed Hammer Paladin)
Blessed Hammer deals magic damage — not physical, fire, cold, or lightning. Magic damage has no immunity in the game. A well-geared Hammerdin can solo DClone reliably in under 60 seconds. This is the most common DClone killer.
Key gear: Enigma, Heart of the Oak, Herald of Zakarum, Harlequin Crest, Chains of Honor or Enigma
Whirlwind Barbarian
Pure physical damage with Whirlwind. DClone has no physical immunity. WW Barb with high damage weapons (Grief runeword) melts DClone quickly. Requires high life and strong physical resistance (using Shout/Iron Skin).
Key gear: Grief Phase Blade, Enigma or Fortitude, Arreat's Face, String of Ears, Highlord's Wrath
Bone Necromancer
Bone Spear and Bone Spirit deal magic damage like Hammerdin. A well-geared Bone Necro can solo DClone from a safe distance. Slower than Hammerdin but very safe due to range and Bone Armor mitigation.
Key gear: Death's Web, Harlequin Crest, Enigma, Homunculus, Arm of King Leoric
Smiter Paladin
Smite deals physical damage and cannot miss. The Smiter is the standard Uber Tristram build and translates well to DClone. Holy Shield provides massive defense. Life Tap from Dracul's Grasp keeps the Smiter alive through DClone's massive melee hits.
Key gear: Grief or Stormlash, Exile, Dracul's Grasp, Verdungo's Hearty Cord, Laying of Hands
Kill Strategy
The standard DClone strategy is the Pindleskin setup:
- Monitor DClone progress using the live tracker on this page or the D2RuneWizard website.
- When progress reaches stage 5 ("Terror is about to be unleashed"), create a new Hell game on the appropriate server/region.
- Go to Act 5 town and speak with Anya to open the portal to Nihlathak's Temple (where Pindleskin waits).
- Stand just inside the portal — don't approach Pindleskin yet. Wait for the stage 6 message.
- When "Diablo has walked the Earth" appears, approach Pindleskin. He will be replaced by Diablo Clone.
- Engage DClone. Stay mobile to avoid Fire Nova. Keep maximum resistances active. Use Life Tap (Dracul's Grasp proc or Attract) if you're a melee build.
- Collect the Annihilus charm from his corpse.
Resist Lightning: DClone's Lightning Breath is his most dangerous ranged attack. Capping lightning resistance at 75% (or higher with the -max resist modifier offset) is critical. Thundergod's Vigor belt adds +20 lightning absorb, making it a strong choice for characters that can afford the belt slot.
Life Tap: DClone's melee damage is astronomical. Life Tap (from Dracul's Grasp gloves) converts 50% of damage dealt to the attacker as life leech. This is the difference between a melee character surviving DClone's hits and dying instantly. Note: Atma's Scarab amulet procs Amplify Damage (not Life Tap) — useful for boosting physical damage but not for sustain.
Bone Prison: DClone frequently casts Bone Prison to trap you in place. If you're using a ranged build like Bone Necro or Hammerdin, this is less of an issue. For melee builds, have Town Portal ready and don't panic — Bone Prison walls take damage and break.

What is the Diablo Clone (Uber Diablo)?
The Diablo Clone, also called Uber Diablo, is a special boss event in Diablo II: Resurrected. When enough Stones of Jordan are sold to vendors on a single server, Diablo Clone spawns in every active game on that server. He replaces the next Super Unique monster you encounter and drops the Annihilus charm — the only source of this item in the game.
How many SOJs does it take to spawn DClone?
The exact number is not publicly disclosed by Blizzard, and it varies by server. In the original D2, roughly 75-120 SOJs sold in a short window would trigger the event. In D2R, the threshold appears similar but the server infrastructure is different. Community tracking via D2RuneWizard and similar tools gives the best real-time indication of progress.
What are the 6 DClone progress messages?
Stage 1: "Terror gazes upon Sanctuary" — Stage 2: "Terror approaches Sanctuary" — Stage 3: "Terror begins to form within Sanctuary" — Stage 4: "Terror spreads across Sanctuary" — Stage 5: "Terror is about to be unleashed upon Sanctuary" — Stage 6: "Diablo has walked the Earth" (DClone spawned).
Where does Diablo Clone spawn in my game?
DClone replaces the next Super Unique monster you encounter after the stage 6 trigger fires. Super Unique monsters are named boss monsters like Bishibosh, Pindleskin, The Smith, and others. The most common strategy is to enter a game with a Super Unique monster nearby — Pindleskin through the Anya portal is the most popular choice — so you can immediately engage DClone.
What does the Annihilus charm do?
The Annihilus is a Small Charm that provides: +1 to All Skill Levels, +10-20 to All Attributes (Strength, Dexterity, Vitality, Energy), +10-20 to All Resistances, and +5-10% to Experience Gained. It takes up 1 inventory slot and is the most powerful small charm in the game. Every endgame character wants one.
Does DClone progress reset after he spawns?
Yes. After DClone spawns (stage 6), the progress counter resets to stage 1 on that server. The cycle then begins again as more SOJs are sold. On active ladder servers, DClone can spawn multiple times per day during peak play periods.
