Unlike D2, Diablo I shrines can have permanent negative effects. Goat Shrines and Cauldrons are completely random — they can do anything from granting a stat point to destroying your weapon's durability. The Fascinating, Ornate, and Sacred shrines will permanently reduce your spell levels. Learn to identify them before you click.
This Diablo 1 shrine guide covers every shrine in the game. Shrines are glowing objects found throughout the dungeon. Each shrine displays a cryptic message when clicked, then applies an effect. The message is your only clue — learn the messages to know what you're about to get. Shrine effects are permanent for stat changes and spell level changes in Diablo 1.

Quick Rules
Divine, Spiritual, Cryptic, Eldritch, Religious, Stone, Glimmering — these are always beneficial with no downside.
Eerie (+Mag), Quiet (+Vit), Creepy (+Str), Abandoned (+Dex) — free permanent stat points. Never skip these.
Goat Shrines, Cauldrons, Fascinating, Ornate — random effects or permanent spell level reduction. Not worth the gamble. If you see "Goat Shrine" or a bubbling cauldron, walk away.
