Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Horadric Cube?

The Horadric Cube is a 3×4 grid item found in Act 2's Halls of the Dead. It acts as a portable crafting station — place the right combination of items inside and click Transmute to create something new. It holds 12 items but only takes up 2×2 space in your inventory.

Do I need all ingredients exactly as listed?

Yes, most recipes require exact ingredients. Some recipes accept a category (e.g., 'any Normal Weapon') but the gem and rune requirements are exact. The Belt crafting recipe famously requires the specific item called 'Belt' (the 12-slot one), not any belt-type item.

What's the best use of Perfect Gems?

Perfect Gems are primarily used for high-tier rune upgrades (Um through Zod) and crafting recipes. For most players, the best use is: Perfect Rubies → Blood Gloves crafts, Perfect Amethysts → Caster Amulet crafts, Perfect Sapphires → Hitpower Gloves crafts, Perfect Emeralds → Safety Shield crafts or Vex→Ohm rune upgrades.

Why is clvl 93 important for crafting?

At clvl 93, every gambled amulet has ilvl ≥ 88. The crafted ilvl formula (int(93/2) + int(88/2) = 90) means every craft has alvl 90, which is the minimum required to roll +2 Class Skills on an amulet. Below clvl 93, some gambled amulets will be too low ilvl to ever roll +2 skills.

Can I get my gems and runes back after unsocketing?

No. The Hel + Scroll of Town Portal + Socketed Item recipe destroys all socketed items permanently. The base item is preserved with empty sockets, but the gems, runes, and jewels inside are gone. Plan carefully before unsocketing.

What's the most efficient way to upgrade runes?

For runes up to Pul (rune #21), you need 3 of the previous rune — this scales exponentially (you need 2,187 El runes to make one Pul). For Um and above, you need 2 runes + a specific gem. The gem doesn't need to be high quality for the lower upgrades, but Perfect gems are required for the top-tier upgrades (Sur→Ber, Ber→Jah, etc.).
