Druid B Tier Melee / Werewolf

Fury Druid Build Guide

Werewolf · Fury · Feral Rage · D2R

Overview

The Fury Druid is the definitive werewolf build in D2R — don't confuse it with a "pure Werewolf" concept. The signature skill is Fury: a 5-hit multi-strike that tears through a target in a single animation. Each of those 5 hits independently procs Crushing Blow, Open Wounds, and life leech — meaning a single Fury attack can proc life tap multiple times per swing. In a game where Crushing Blow reduces enemy life by a percentage, a 5× proc machine kills bosses faster than almost any physical melee build.

This is also one of D2R's premier Uber Tristram builds — the tankiness of Lycanthropy (massive life) combined with Fury's Crushing Blow makes Mephisto, Diablo, and Baal clones die in seconds. For Solo Hell farming, it handles Chaos Sanctuary, Throne room, and physical-vulnerable zones with efficiency. The wolf form's speed advantage over Werebear means you can chase down fleeing enemies and reposition quickly.

Skill Allocation

20 pts — Fury (primary attack — 5-hit multi-strike, each hit procs independently)

20 pts — Werewolf (attack speed + life bonus in wolf form)

20 pts — Lycanthropy (massive life multiplier, shapeshifting duration)

20 pts — Heart of Wolverine (attack rating and physical damage boost)

1 pt each — Feral Rage (life leech + run speed stacks for mobility), Oak Sage, Grizzly, Rabies (1 pt poison for utility)

Use Feral Rage to build run speed and life leech stacks before engaging, then switch to Fury to unleash the multi-hit damage. Heart of Wolverine is mandatory — without it, attack rating is too low to reliably hit Hell enemies.

IAS Breakpoints (Werewolf / Fury)

IAS on armor/helm does NOT work in Werewolf form. Only weapon IAS and off-weapon IAS from Beast's Fanaticism aura apply.

Phase Blade (200% base speed) — requires minimal added IAS for fast frames.

Target: 9-frame Fury for peak efficiency (faster than this is rarely achievable without Beast).

With Grief Phase Blade + Beast offhand + Werewolf skills: easily achieves fast frames.

Stat Points

Strength: Minimum for gear

Dexterity: Base (Werewolf doesn't benefit from block)

Vitality: All remaining — Lycanthropy multiplies base life, making every point here scale excellently

Energy: Base — Feral Rage life steal + Oak Sage handle sustain

Gear

Budget

Weapon: Ribcracker (upgraded Crushing Blow + high damage)

Armor: Treachery (IAS from Fade proc, cheap to make)

Helm: Jalal's Mane (+2 Druid skills, shapeshifting bonus)

Gloves: Dracul's Grasp (Life Tap proc)

Mid

Weapon: Grief Phase Blade (highest flat physical damage in game + IAS)

Armor: Fortitude

Rings: Raven Frost (Cannot Be Frozen) + Bul-Kathos' Wedding Band

Best in Slot

Main Hand: Grief Phase Blade

Off Hand: Beast Berserker Axe (Fanaticism aura — IAS aura works in wolf form)

Armor: Fortitude Archon Plate

Helm: Guillaume's Face (Crushing Blow 35%, Deadly Strike 15%)

Charms: Werewolf shape-shifting GCs + life SCs

Mercenary

Type: Act 2 Nightmare Offensive (Might aura)

Weapon: Reaper's Toll (Decrepify proc — slows enemies, -50% physical res)

Armor: Treachery or Fortitude

Helm: Andariel's Visage

Reaper's Toll Decrepify proc is highly valuable — slowed, weakened enemies take significantly more physical damage and can't move as fast. The Might aura multiplies all physical damage output. Together, this merc setup amplifies your already-strong damage to excellent levels.

Playstyle Tips

  • Fury is your main attack — 5 hits per animation. Each hit procs Crushing Blow, Open Wounds, and life leech independently.
  • Use Feral Rage first to build run speed stacks, then switch to Fury when in range. Feral Rage life leech keeps you alive between Fury swings.
  • Jalal's Mane is the go-to budget helm — +2 Druid skills, all resistances, and shapeshifting bonus.
  • Lycanthropy + Oak Sage + Battle Orders from CTA pushes your life pool to extreme levels in Hell. This build is very hard to die on.
  • Incredible Uber Tristram build — 5× Crushing Blow per Fury animation kills clones before they can react.
  • Heart of Wolverine must be kept active — it provides critical attack rating for reliable hits in Hell.
  • Best farming spots: Chaos Sanctuary, Throne of Destruction, Worldstone Keep, and physical-vulnerable areas throughout Hell.

Leveling Progression

Werewolf is available at level 1; Fury unlocks at level 30:

Levels 1–17 — Werewolf + melee. Feral Rage at level 12 adds run speed and life leech stacks immediately.
Levels 18–29 — Continue building Werewolf and Lycanthropy. Feral Rage sustains through Normal and early Nightmare.
Levels 30–60 — Fury unlocks at 30. Max it alongside Werewolf and Lycanthropy. The 5-hit multi-strike is immediately powerful.
Levels 60+ — Max Heart of Wolverine → Oak Sage. Target Grief Phase Blade, Fortitude, Guillaume's Face. Beast offhand unlocks the build's ceiling.
