Death Nova Necromancer — Trag'Oul's Avatar Build

By the DiabloBytes team · Updated May 2026

Death Nova Necromancer is one of the strongest solo Greater Rift push builds in Diablo 3. The build leverages Trag\'Oul\'s Avatar 6-piece bonus — 10,000% increased damage to Life-spending abilities and doubled healing from skills — to turn the Blood Nova rune of Death Nova into a massive nuke. Bloodtide Blade adds a per-enemy Death Nova multiplier from nearby targets, and Krysbin\'s Sentence triples damage on hard-CC\'d enemies via Decrepify\'s Dizzying Curse stun proc. The result: top-tier solo GR ceiling.

Core Skills

Death Nova (Blood Nova rune)

Primary damage skill. Blood Nova rune makes it a Blood Skill so it scales with Trag'Oul's 6,250%.

Siphon Blood (Power Shift rune)

Channeling skill. Stacks Funerary Pick bonus and triggers Iron Rose auto-Blood Novas.

Simulacrum (Reservoir rune)

Two clones that mirror your Death Novas. The build's biggest burst multiplier.

Bone Armor (Dislocation rune)

Damage reduction + slow on contact. Always on cooldown.

Blood Rush (Hemostasis rune)

Mobility + shield. Trag'Oul gives this skill all rune effects so positioning is forgiving.

Decrepify (Dizzying Curse rune)

Slow + stun proc. Activates Krysbin's 300% damage tier on elites.

Required Gear

Slot Item Why

Off-hand (Phylactery) Iron Rose Each tick of Siphon Blood auto-casts a free Blood Nova. Free damage layer + Death Nova damage stacks.
Amulet Haunted Visions Makes Simulacrum permanent (drains 1% Life/sec). Allows the two Simulacrums to mirror your Death Novas indefinitely.

Belt Dayntee's Binding 40-50% damage reduction while any nearby enemy is cursed (Decrepify is up permanently).

Legendary Gem 3 Esoteric Alteration Up to 75% non-Physical damage reduction at high ranks. Standard solo push survival gem.

Stat Priorities

  • Offense: Death Nova Damage % > Critical Hit Damage > Cold/Physical Damage % > Critical Hit Chance > Area Damage
  • Defense: Vitality (massive — Trag\'Oul scaling) > Armor > Life % > Elite Damage Reduction > All Resistance
  • Cube: Funerary Pick (weapon — for the +200% damage bonus from Power Shift channel), Aquila Cuirass (armor — high damage reduction at >90% Essence), Ring of Royal Grandeur (jewelry — drops Trag\'Oul piece count to 5)

Push Rotation

  3. 3

  4. 4
Convention of Elements Physical window opens Drop both Simulacrums on top of the elite pack.
  5. 5
Spam Death Nova During the Physical window, Death Nova hits with all multipliers stacked. This is the kill window.
  6. 6

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is Death Nova Necromancer S-tier in Diablo 3?

Trag'Oul's Avatar 6-piece grants 10,000% increased damage to your Life-spending abilities and doubles healing from skills. Death Nova's Blood Nova rune is a Life-spending Blood skill, so it inherits the full 10,000% multiplier. Combined with Bloodtide Blade's per-enemy Death Nova bonus and Krysbin's Sentence triple-damage tier on hard-CC'd targets, the build sits at the top of the solo Greater Rift push tier list.

How does the rotation work?

Channel Siphon Blood (Power Shift rune) to stack Funerary Pick and trigger Iron Rose auto-Blood Novas. With Convention of Elements on Physical, drop Simulacrums onto a dense elite pack and spam Death Nova during the burst window. Bone Armor stays on cooldown for damage reduction. Decrepify keeps elites cursed for the Dayntee's Binding damage reduction.

What does Bloodtide Blade do?

Bloodtide Blade is the build-defining 2H scythe — it adds a flat 300% Death Nova damage bonus and triggers a secondary Death Nova that gains additional damage for every enemy within 25 yards (up to 25). The build wants you in the middle of dense packs at all times because the per-enemy scaling is huge. Solo push and group clear both rely on standing in piles of mobs, not kiting.

Can I speed-farm with this build?

Yes. The speed-farm variation swaps push-only items (Krysbin's, Bone Armor) for mobility (Stone of Jordan ring, Steuart's Greaves) and uses Bottomless Potion of Kulle-Aid for resource sustain. The push setup is bossing-leaning; the speed setup chews T16 and lower GRs in 2-3 minutes. Same skill bar, gear swaps only.
