Skeletal Mage Summoner Necromancer — DI PvE Build Guide
By the DiabloBytes team · Updated May 2026
The Skeletal Mage Summoner is Diablo Immortal's S-tier PvE Necromancer for 2026. The build leans on three layered minion sources — Skeletal Mages, Command Skeletons, and Command Golem — backed by Bone Wall to spawn extra zombies and Dark Curse to amp damage on the whole pack. You stay at mid-range, your undead army absorbs aggro, and Skeletal Mages pump auto-firing soulfire bolts down lanes you set up. Synod's Anointing keeps multiple Mages in play with reduced cooldown — that legendary plus the 6-piece Shepherd's Call to Wolves set is what pushes the build from B-tier to S-tier.
S-tier confirmation: Necromancer holds an S-tier PvE position on the 2026 Diablo Immortal class tier list, with the Summoner archetype as the recommended endgame setup for Challenge Rifts, Helliquary, and the new Inferno-difficulty Bounties. See the Class Tier List for cross-class comparisons.
Skill Bar (6 Slots)
AoE-leaning primary attack. Detonates on impact and damages enemies near the main target. Filler when everything else is on cooldown.
Core damage skill. Summon an immobile mage that fires soulfire bolts for a duration. Synod's Anointing adds an extra charge and reduces cooldown to keep multiple mages out.
Direct your skeleton army at a target. Single-target spike + minion repositioning.
Versatile pet slot — taunt-tank, charge-up CC, or pure damage depending on the legendary you slot here.
Wall summon that spawns zombies on cast. Adds extra minions to your bodyguard line and blocks projectiles.
Damage-over-time curse plus enemy vision reduction. Apply on every pack — it doubles as a debuff and a damage layer.
Legendary Items
Set Items (4-piece + 2-piece)
- 6-piece Shepherd's Call to Wolves — top-end summoner set. 2pc: summons deal 15% more damage. 4pc: up to +18% Crit Chance from minions. 6pc: minion crits trigger a 10-second 100% damage and attack speed frenzy on a 40-second cooldown. The Necromancer's BiS summoner set.
- 2-piece Issatar Imbued — damage scales with Movement Speed. Necro Summoner is constantly repositioning to drop Skeletal Mages into new lanes.
- Alternate (DoT-leaning): 2-piece Grace of the Flagellant — +15% Continuous, Channeled, and persistent ground damage. Pairs with Skeletal Mage soulfire ticks and Dark Curse DoT while you build toward 6pc Shepherd's.
Legendary Gems
Five-star slots first; one and two-star fill the rest based on your awakened-rank progression.
Paragon Tree
- Primary tree: Survivor — focuses on damage reduction, Life, and Armor. Necromancer minions tank aggro but you still eat occasional projectiles. Survivor keeps you upright through Helliquary boss telegraphs.
- Secondary tree: Treasure Hunter — once Paragon level allows a second tree, swap into Treasure Hunter for the gold/drop multipliers during farm sessions.
- PvP swap: Vanquisher — pure offense tree for Battlegrounds. Do not use this in PvE; the survivor stats are higher value when you are pulling Inferno-tier packs.
Helliquary Bosses
Slot the highest-Combat-Rating Helliquary bosses you have unlocked. Bonus priority order:
- Lassal the Flame-Spun — flat damage bonus. Always slot if available.
- Vitaath the Shivering Death — secondary damage trinket. Pairs with Lassal.
- Slot any additional unlocked Helliquary trophy you have at the highest available rank — Combat Rating from the trophy itself usually beats theme-matching at lower ranks.
Reforge Stones
- Mercenary Stone — first pick. Provides damage multipliers that work in solo and group content equally. Family Bonus is content-agnostic, unlike kill-required stones.
- Ravager Stone — situational. Innate summoner-oriented attributes are excellent, but its Family Bonus only procs on enemy kills, which makes it weak for Challenge Rift bosses and Helliquary single-target.
- Conqueror Stone — late-game alternative for damage-against-elites focus. Use once you have a Mercenary Stone awakened.
- Rank priorities: reforge bonuses unlock at gear ranks 6, 11, and 16. Get every primary piece to rank 6 first; rank 11+ is a long-tail upgrade path.
Rotation
- Cast Bone Wall on cooldown to spawn zombies and add bodies to your minion army.
- Apply Dark Curse on the densest pack you can hit — damage amp + vision reduction.
- Drop Skeletal Mage in a lane that runs through the pack. Welcome End cycles a fresh one in as the previous expires.
- Hit Command Skeletons to focus-fire elites or bosses.
- Use Command Golem for taunt-saves or charge-CC depending on your slotted legendary.
- Soulfire as filler primary while everything is on cooldown. Reposition between casts to keep the Issatar Imbued movement bonus active.

FAQ
Is the Skeletal Mage Summoner the best PvE Necromancer build in Diablo Immortal?
Yes. The Summoner archetype anchored by Skeletal Mage and Command Skeletons remains the top PvE Necromancer setup heading into 2026. It clears Challenge Rifts, Helliquary, Inferno Bounties, and Elder Rifts at a consistent pace, and the playstyle scales smoothly from F2P gear to whale rolls. Other Necromancer setups (pure Bone Wall, Wraith) niche into PvP or specific group roles, but Summoner is the all-content default.
How does the rotation work?
Open with Bone Wall to spawn zombies and prep your minion screen. Drop Dark Curse on the pack for the damage amp + vision reduction. Throw Skeletal Mage to seed the lane with auto-firing soulfire bolts. Use Command Skeletons to point your skeleton army at the priority target. Cycle Command Golem for either taunt-tank or charge-up CC depending on your legendary slot. Soulfire is your filler primary while everything is on cooldown.
What is the most important legendary?
Synod's Anointing on the shoulders is the build-defining piece for sustained Skeletal Mage uptime — it adds a charge and reduces the cooldown so you can keep multiple mages out continuously. Welcome End on the off-hand pairs with it as the alternate playstyle, transforming Skeletal Mage into a single, more powerful Grim Reaper summon. Without one of these legendaries your DPS dips into cooldown gaps. The 6-piece Shepherd's Call to Wolves set is the long-term minion damage chase target.
Can I use this build for PvP?
Not as-is. The pure PvE Summoner is too cooldown-dependent and your minions get cleaved off the screen by player AoE in Battlegrounds. For PvP, swap toward the Fear + Silence Wraith variant: keep Dark Curse, drop Skeletal Mage for Wraith Form, and slot fear-application legendaries instead of minion-damage ones. PvE and PvP Necro share core gear but want different skill bars.
