Diablo Immortal Patch 4.3: The Taking Arrives March 19

By the DiabloBytes team · 6 min read

Something is quietly erasing people from Sanctuary. Absence where they once stood, and only unease left behind. Your search pulls you from Westmarch to a once familiar monastery, and then beyond the borders you know into a scorched desert where old truths don't stay buried. Whatever is stirring out there has been watching for a long time, and it's only just begun to move. Patch 4.3: The Taking arrives March 19, 2026, bringing with it the opening chapter of a year-long saga, a new explorable subzone, a reimagined Battleground experience, and our first-ever equalized PvP tournament.

The Taking - New Main Quest

In Patch 4.3, whispers of vanishing lives spread like rot through the land. Entire souls are being taken, drawing you into The Taking, the new main quest and the opening chapter of the year-long saga dubbed "Nation in Agony." Guided by uneasy alliances and long-trusted companions, your investigation drags you from the streets of Westmarch to the Eastgate Monastery, last seen in Diablo II. What once stood as a place of faith now festers with unanswered questions and darker truths waiting to be unearthed.

The trail does not end within Sanctuary's borders. Your investigation takes you to the Rocky Waste, a scorched and unforgiving land outside Lut Gholein—the so-called jewel of the desert. There, beneath the relentless sun and shifting sands, something ancient stirs. Your pursuit reveals the hand behind the suffering: Andariel, the Demon Queen—Maiden of Anguish. Her influence bleeds into every disappearance.

Patch 4.3 Key Features

  • New main quest "The Taking" - opening chapter of Nation in Agony saga
  • Rocky Waste - new explorable subzone outside Lut Gholein
  • Andariel revealed as the antagonist behind the disappearances
  • Horrid Transformations limited-time event (March 19 - April 16)
  • Challenge of Equals - first equalized Bout of Realms tournament
  • New Legendary Gem: Leviathan Tomb

Rocky Waste - New Explorable Subzone

With Patch 4.3, the Rocky Waste becomes a new explorable subzone where players can hunt wanted monsters, pursue bounties, and carve through demonic forces amid a land shaped by torment and decay. This scorched desert environment brings fresh challenges for veteran adventurers while offering new storytelling beats that tie directly into the larger Nation in Agony narrative.

Horrid Transformations Limited-Time Event

Sanctuary's most feared apparitions have been twisted into something far more grotesque—for a limited time. The Horrid Transformations event runs March 19 through April 16, temporarily empowering select zone bosses with new mechanics, increased health, and heightened aggression.

Two world bosses will undergo horrid transformations during their active windows. The Haunted Carriage (Ashwold Cemetery) becomes the Horrid Haunted Carriage, led by the Horrid Tax Collector—gaining the ability to summon minions that tether to the boss and restore its health while active. Meanwhile, Ancient Nightmare (Mount Zavain) becomes the Horrid Ancient Nightmare, gaining the ability to split into multiple clones that must be defeated simultaneously to end the encounter.

Players can earn rewards for defeating each enhanced boss up to 6 times per week, with guaranteed enhanced rewards on the first kill each week. Enhanced rewards may include 2/2 Legendary Items, Normal Gems, and Rare Ore.

Challenge of Equals - Equalized PvP Tournament

You asked for it, and now it's here! Challenge of Equals is a new variant of the Bout of Realms PvP Tournament that normalizes player power to emphasize moment-to-moment combat and mechanical skill. Teams of 8 will compete against each other in this new iteration of the ultimate tournament to prove themselves the best in Sanctuary!

Sign-ups begin March 19, with the tournament running March 23–27. This equalized format reduces progression-based advantages while preserving class identity and core build choices. Legendary affixes and set bonuses remain active, but Legendary Gem affixes are standardized to Rank 10 effects, and Five-Star Legendary Gems are normalized to Two-Star values. Runes, Normal Gems, Charms, Resonance, Deeds of Valor, Legacy of the Horadrim, and Ancestral Tableau are all disabled.

To support players new to PvP or those looking to experiment, Elite Slayer Loadouts are available—curated builds based on real setups from top contributors in Cross-Server Bout of Realms and Battlegrounds. All participants can select from this roster for immediate access to competitive PvP builds across multiple classes.

New Legendary Gem: Leviathan Tomb

Patch 4.3 introduces a brand-new Legendary Gem: Leviathan Tomb. This powerful gem brings unique effects that will shake up the meta for both PvE and PvP builds. Players looking to maximize their character's potential will want to acquire this gem as soon as possible through the game's standard Legendary Gem acquisition methods.

Battleground Seasonal Update Coming April 2026

A major shift is coming to the Battlegrounds in April 2026. Diablo Immortal's Battlegrounds will undergo their first major seasonal refresh, reimagining the flow, spectacle, and emotional arc of PvP combat across both Classic and Convoy maps. This update introduces new visual themes alongside gameplay rhythm adjustments designed to heighten tension, reinforce player impact, and deepen immersion in the world of Sanctuary.

At its core, this seasonal update is about escalation. Battles will evolve from chaos into triumph, with every phase of combat feeding naturally into the next. Victory will no longer feel isolated or abstract—momentum will be visible, immediate, and shared across the battlefield. This represents a fundamental redesign of how PvP feels to play, with changes that will impact competitive strategies across all skill levels.

What This Means for Players

Patch 4.3 represents one of Diablo Immortal's most substantial updates in recent memory. The Taking kicks off what promises to be an ambitious year-long narrative arc, with Andariel stepping back into the spotlight as a major antagonist. The Rocky Waste subzone provides fresh content for players who've exhausted existing zones, while the Horrid Transformations event offers a challenge even for veteran players—with enhanced boss mechanics that require new strategies.

For PvP enthusiasts, the Challenge of Equals tournament is a game-changer. By normalizing gear and progression advantages, Blizzard has created a truly competitive environment where mechanical skill matters more than grind time. This lowers the barrier to entry for competitive PvP significantly, and the inclusion of Elite Slayer Loadouts means new players can compete immediately without spending months building their character.

The Battleground seasonal update arriving in April shows Blizzard's commitment to evolving PvP beyond just balance patches. The "chaos to triumph" philosophy suggests a more cinematic approach to combat that could fundamentally change how players engage with the mode. Combined with the new Leviathan Tomb Legendary Gem, Patch 4.3 has something for every type of Diablo Immortal player.
