Is the Barbarian good in D2R?

Yes. Frenzy Barb is Maxroll's top-tier Barbarian with stacking attack/move speed. Berserk is S-tier on the overall list because it converts physical damage to magic, solving every physical immune. Whirlwind Barb is a classic farmer with dual Grief. Battle Orders is the best party buff in the game.

Why is the Barbarian slow early?

He struggles before level 30 because War Cry and Whirlwind both unlock at 30. Maxroll explicitly notes Barb is a weak pre-30 class. Carry yourself with Double Swing + Howl until then, and pick up Battle Orders at 24 — it's the single most important level-up for any Barb.

What is Find Item and why does it matter?

The Barbarian descends from the Children of Bul-Kathos — Arreat's sworn guardians of the Worldstone. Pure physical melee with the highest Strength pool in the game. His defining features: Battle Orders (+50% life/mana/stamina to the whole party), Find Item (re-roll corpse loot — only Barbarian has this), and the ability to dual-wield any one-handed weapon.
