Diablo 4 Player Slays 2,401 Treasure Goblins Using Lord of Hatred Dungeon Skill Tree Exploit
The Gauntlet upgrade's shrine respawn mechanic creates a chain reaction that overwhelms the game's item system, deleting loot for players who push too far.

Diablo 4's Lord of Hatred expansion introduced activity skill trees that let players customize dungeon modifiers with bonus loot and tougher bosses. One particular upgrade in the Nightmare Dungeon Gauntlet tree has become the most profitable farming method in the game—but it comes with a catch. YouTube creator FP demonstrated that the shrine respawn mechanic can spawn over 2,000 treasure goblins in a single run, generating more loot than Diablo 4 can handle.
The exploit centers on an option that respawns enemies when they die while a shrine buff is active. By chaining multiple shrines together, players can create exponential goblin multiplication—particularly with Gelatinous Goblins, which split into smaller variants upon death and then respawn as larger versions.
What Changed
Lord of Hatred's activity skill trees allow customization of dungeon types through various upgrades. The key mechanic enabling mass treasure goblin farming involves the shrine buff respawn effect available in the Nightmare Dungeon Gauntlet upgrade tree. This option causes enemies slain during an active shrine buff to respawn when the buff expires, creating a chain reaction opportunity.
The setup requires finding a dungeon with guaranteed shrines and resetting until treasure goblins appear—a process that can take considerable time. Players must plan a route to activate multiple shrines in sequence before engaging goblins. Any killed while the shrine buff is active will respawn as the buff ends, allowing players to activate another shrine and continue the cycle.
Gelatinous Goblins are the optimal target because they split into several smaller variants when killed, which then respawn as larger goblins, multiplying potential rewards exponentially with each chain.
What This Means for Players
Barbarian players using Whirlwind builds can efficiently clear these goblin-heavy dungeons without needing to see individual item drops. Other classes should use Lord of Hatred's new loot filter settings to isolate desired items from the overwhelming number of drops.
The farming strategy currently beats all other methods in terms of raw loot potential—but only if players exercise restraint. FP's run at 2,401 goblins resulted in near-total loot loss as the game deleted items due to excessive entity counts on the floor. Players attempting this method should cap their runs significantly lower; FP recommends targeting around 399 goblins per run to preserve rewards.
What's Next
Players interested in this farming method should prioritize finding dungeons with guaranteed shrine spawns and invest time in obtaining Gelatinous Goblin encounters. The setup phase is lengthy, but the payoff can exceed traditional endgame grinding. Blizzard has not announced any immediate plans to address this interaction, though future balancing updates may affect the Gauntlet upgrade's availability or functionality.
