Loot Filter — Setup, Conditions, and Sharing
Updated April 2026
Lord of Hatred ships with the long-requested Loot Filter — a free universal update available to every Diablo 4 player regardless of expansion ownership. The filter lets you highlight gear that matters and hide everything else, ending the screen-clutter problem that has dogged D4 since launch.
How to Open the Loot Filter
- Open the main menu (Esc / Options button).
- Go to Options → Gameplay.
- Scroll down to the large red "Open Loot Filter" button.
- Optional: enable the "Enable Loot Filter shortcut on Game Menu" checkbox to add a faster-access button to the main menu.
Building Your First Filter
- Click "New Filter" and name it (e.g., "Endgame Hammerdin", "Talisman Hunter", "Mat Farming").
- Add a Rule via the "Add Rule" button. Each filter holds 1-25 rules.
- Add Conditions to each rule. Conditions tell the rule what to look for and what to do (highlight color, hide, sound alert).
- Test in-game before relying on it in heavy farming runs. Bad rules can hide gear you actually wanted.
The 10 Condition Types
Filter by item power tier (e.g., 800+ only).
Show only Rare, Legendary, Unique, Mythic, etc.
Match on stat affixes — life, resistance, primary stats.
Highlight items that would upgrade your Codex aspect rolls.
Match items with at least N greater affixes.
Filter by gear slot — helm, chest, weapon, jewelry, etc.
Item must have ALL listed affixes.
Item must have at least ONE of the listed affixes.
Match a named Unique item (Doombringer, Heir of Perdition, etc).
Match Talisman Charms by their set affiliation.
Sharing Filters (Import / Export)
Filters export as text strings you can share with other players:
- Export: select the filter, click the three-dot menu next to its name, choose Export. The filter string is copied to your clipboard.
- Import: in the same menu, choose Import and paste a filter string into the popup.
- Share via community: DiabloFilter.com is the de facto community filter library — browse, copy, and import filters built by other players.
Recommended Starter Filters
Three patterns that work for most builds. Each is a single filter with 3-5 rules — keep your filters lean during launch week so you can audit what's being hidden.
- Greater Affix Hunter: show only items with 2+ Greater Affixes. Hides everything else. Aggressive but keeps the screen clean during Pit grinds.
- Talisman Farmer: show all Charms with set bonus tags. Hide all gear below Mythic rarity. Optimal for Echoing Hatred and Lair Boss farming.
- Codex Upgrade Only: highlight items that would upgrade your Codex of Power roll. Combine with "hide everything else" for clean Codex hunting in the campaign or early Torment.
FAQ
How do I open the Loot Filter in Diablo 4?
Open the main menu → Options → Gameplay → scroll down to "Open Loot Filter" (large red button). You can also enable a shortcut in the main menu via the "Enable Loot Filter shortcut on Game Menu" checkbox for quicker access.
How many filters and rules can I create?
You can create multiple named filters. Each filter contains 1 to 25 rules. Each rule contains one or more conditions. The 10 condition types include Item Power Range, Item Rarity Match, Item Properties, Codex Upgrade Check, Greater Affix Check, Item Type Match, Has Required Affixes, Has Optional Affixes, Is Specific Unique, and Talisman Set Bonus.
How do I share a Loot Filter?
Open your Loot Filter list, click the three-dot menu next to the filter name, then Export — this copies the filter as a string code to your clipboard. To import, paste an Import Code into the popup. The community site DiabloFilter.com hosts shared filters for download.
Is the Loot Filter free or expansion-only?
The Loot Filter is a free universal update — every Diablo 4 player gets it, no Lord of Hatred purchase required. It launched alongside Lord of Hatred on April 28, 2026.
Does the Loot Filter hide items or just highlight them?
It does both. Rules can highlight items meeting criteria (color-coded ground labels, sound alerts) or hide items completely from the ground display. Hidden items still drop and can be picked up — they're just not shown on the ground or minimap.
Can I filter Talismans specifically?
Yes. The "Talisman Set Bonus" condition lets you match Charms by their set affiliation, so you can build dedicated rules for sets like Nilfur's Narrow Eye or Druid Werebear Companions. This is critical for Talisman farming since Charm pieces drop alongside regular gear and would otherwise be lost in the noise.
