Diablo IV Season 13 — Launch Guide
By the DiabloBytes team · Updated April 2026 · Pre-Launch — verifying ahead of official reveal
Season 13 — Season of Reckoning launched April 27, 2026 at 4:00 PM PDT (globally synchronized — April 28 1:00 AM CEST), simultaneously with the Lord of Hatred expansion. This was an unusual season: Blizzard ran no PTR, a patch 3.0 PTR was absent. The expansion's content dominates the launch, making S13 structurally closer to "LoH launch season" than a traditional seasonal release.

The Seasonal Theme
As of publication, Blizzard has not published a dedicated Season 13 theme blog. That post typically drops the week before rollover. Given the timing — simultaneous with a major expansion — the reasonable expectation is that S13's unique seasonal mechanic is minimal, mirroring Vessel of Hatred's launch season (S6 — Season of Hatred Rising), where expansion content overshadowed the traditional seasonal activity.
This page will be updated the moment Blizzard publishes the S13 seasonal theme details. Keep an eye on the April 23 Developer Update Livestream for final confirmations.
Echoing Hatred — The New Pinnacle
The one clearly-seasonal piece of content confirmed for S13 is Echoing Hatred — an endless-wave survival mode ranked above The Pit in pinnacle difficulty. Key facts:
- ◆ Triggered by the hyper-rare "Trace of Echoes" drop (exact drop source undisclosed)
- ◆ Infinite scaling waves of Mephisto’s forces
- ◆ Multi-boss encounters mid-run
- ◆ Escalating loot tiers — best rewards are past Pit 150-equivalent
- ◆ Free for all players, no expansion required
- ◆ Entrance lives in Temis (Skovos hub, LoH campaign unlock) but also accessible via the "Trace of Echoes" drop anywhere
Mid-Season Events
Season 13's mid-season slate is light by design — Lord of Hatred's expansion content carries the season — but two notable events bracket patch 3.0.2:
Gift of the Tree (returning seasonal event)
Ends today (May 20)Hand-in bonus on the Tree of Whispers: every Grim Favors turn-in grants an additional Whisper Cache, effectively doubling Whisper output for the duration. In Torment difficulty the caches also contribute extra Cube materials, Gems, and Charms. Stacks with War Plans crafting-material drop-rate buffs.
Best for alts and characters still gearing up — the speed-up at low-to-mid Torment is the strongest part of the event. Runs through May 20, 2026.
Overwatch x Diablo — Hatred's Reckoning crossover
Ended May 18April 28 – May 18, 2026. Timed to the Lord of Hatred launch and the franchise's 30th-anniversary window. The collab itself was Overwatch-side — new Diablo-themed skins (Ramattra as Mephisto, Reinhardt as Imperius, Moira as Lilith, plus more) and re-issues from the earlier Trials of Sanctuary event. Twitch Drops included Wolf Pup and Sword weapon charms for Overwatch.
No Diablo IV-side rewards were tied to the crossover. If you were hoping for D4 cosmetics from this event, there were none — it was an Overwatch-side cosmetic push.
Patch 3.0.2 (May 13, 2026) was the first major post-launch patch — broad bug fixes across all 8 classes, Sorcerer recovery (Meteor, Fireball, Chain Lightning, Ice Shards, Hydra all restored along with The Oculus and Vox Omnium), the Storm Shepherd Druid set rework, War Plans group-play fixes, and additions to Party Finder. See the 3.0.2 news article and hotfixes log for the full change list.
Launch Day Strategy
- 1 Create your Season 13 character Paladin is available early if you pre-purchased. Warlock unlocks on launch for everyone. Existing characters also get the skill tree rework and level cap raise — no need to reroll.
- 2 Complete the Challenge Rift equivalent Check the weekly seasonal journey rewards cache — gives a head-start on early gear.
- 3 Push the LoH campaign to unlock Temis Priority Day 1. Temis is the hub for Horadric Cube, War Plans, and Echoing Hatred. Cannot access endgame without the campaign beat.
- 4 Level to 70 via Helltides + NMD Standard leveling loop. Don’t commit to a build until cap. The reworked tree needs all 70 points to show its shape.
- 5 Respec freely and experiment Respec cost is $0. Try variants. The tag-modifying upgrades matter more than any old "best build" you’ve memorized.
- 6 Start a 3-activity War Plan Once endgame is open, test War Plans with short chains before committing to full 5-activity plans.
- 7 Ignore tier lists for 2-4 weeks Maxroll, Mobalytics, Icy Veins will publish rough drafts Day 1 but refine for weeks. Community consensus stabilizes by mid-May.
Pre-Launch Prep (for S12 players)
Nothing transfers between seasonal characters, but account-wide materials carry to Eternal. Worth stockpiling:
- ✓ Obducite Masterworking is a bottleneck at cap. Farm Undercity Tribute of Refinement + Infernal Hordes.
- ✓ Boss Lair Keys Unique summons. Needed for Dawnfire (Auradin Paladin) and other build enablers.
- ✓ Murmuring Obols + Pale Marks Gamble new-class Legendary Aspects Day 1.
- ✓ Gold to cap Tempering + reroll costs scale at Level 70. Gold cap is reachable.
- ✓ Runes of Ritual Runeword materials. Paladin builds especially lean on runewords.
What NOT to bank: Glyph XP. Glyphs do not transfer between characters — level fresh on S13.
