Diablo IV Leveling Guide 1-100

By the DiabloBytes team · Updated April 2026 · Season 12

⚡ Level Cap Note

Diablo IV's level cap is currently 60 (Vessel of Hatred set this in September 2024, replacing the original 1-100 cap). Lord of Hatred raises the cap to 70 on April 28, 2026. The "1-100" phrase is a search holdover from launch through Season 4. The leveling activities themselves (Helltide → NMD → Pit) did not change — the route below still applies at any cap.

Leveling in Diablo IV is a loop: Campaign Skip to the open world, grind Renown for skill + paragon points, farm Helltides for density + Aberrant Cinders, run Nightmare Dungeons for Glyph XP once past 50, then push The Pit at cap. This guide walks the standard route, the XP multipliers that stack, class-specific leveling notes, and how to power-level.

The Standard Route

  1. Level 1-10 Prologue + early Fractured Peaks. Kill everything, pick up every side quest, tag every Altar of Lilith you see.
  2. Level 10-20 Priority Quest at 15 unlocks your class mechanic. Continue story or Campaign Skip + Renown grind in Fractured Peaks.
  3. Level 20-35 Renown in every region you can reach. Side quests. Strongholds = big XP chunks. Bump difficulty to Expert when you outpace monsters.
  4. Level 35-50 Helltide from here. Zone-wide density, Aberrant Cinders, Blood Maiden. Overlap with Tree of Whispers Grim Favors.
  5. Level 50-60 Nightmare Dungeons (Sigil T1-T20). Cursed Chests + Cursed Shrines inside spike XP. Also the Glyph XP engine.
  6. Level 60 (current cap) Bump to Torment via Pit 20. Start masterworking material farm. Push Paragon 300 + Glyph 100 at leisure.
  7. Level 60-70 (post-LoH) Continue in Torment tiers. Pit, Hordes, Helltide all feed the post-cap loop. Paragon gains accelerate with higher Torment.

XP Multipliers (All Stackable)

All XP bonuses stack additively. Peak leveling sessions stack every available source:

Source Bonus Notes
Elixir (Tier 1) +5% 30 min. Any Alchemist.
Elixir (Tier 2) +8% 30 min. Higher mats.
Incense +5% Level 45+. Second slot alongside elixir.
Party bonus +5% / +5% Per nearby player + per party member. Up to +10% total.
Urn of Aggression up to +8% Seasonal. Altars of Reckoning collection bonus.
Season Journey blessing +5% to +10% Smoldering Ashes spent on Urn of Aggression.
Hard difficulty +75% Baseline recommended start.
Expert difficulty +125% After Prologue.
Penitent difficulty +175% After Campaign.
Torment I-IV +300% to +600% Post-cap, gated by Pit 20/35/50/65.

Helltide Leveling (30-60)

Helltides are the peak leveling activity from roughly Level 30 through 60. They start at the top of every hour and run 55 minutes, with a 5-minute reset between cycles. Zone-wide demon corruption escalates density via the Threat meter, triggering Hellborne ambushes at max threat. Save Aberrant Cinders for high-tier chests at zone-end (Mystery Chest = 175 Cinders). Summon the Blood Maiden with 2 Baneful Hearts for a materials/legendary/Cinder payday.

Nightmare Dungeons & The Pit

From roughly Level 50 onward, shift to Nightmare Dungeons. Craft Sigils at the Occultist using Sigil Powder. Tiers 1-100 scale monster level up to 154. Every NMD clear levels your equipped Glyph — this is the main reason to run NMDs at endgame. Prioritize Cursed Chest and Cursed Shrine events for XP spikes.

At cap, The Pit becomes the dominant activity. Spend 3 Runeshards per run, race the 10-minute timer, and earn Obducite / Ingolith / Neathiron masterworking materials plus Torment unlocks. Pit T10-55 yields ~100M-400M XP/hr depending on build clear speed. Pit has no Glyph altar — it's for gear materials.

Class-Specific Leveling (S12)

Spiritborn S+-tier leveling

Still best. Evade build, Quill Volley, Touch of Death all carry from level 1.

Paladin S-tier leveling

Wing Strikes Disciple Oath and Blessed Hammer Judicator level beautifully once Oath unlocks at 15.

Sorcerer A-tier leveling

Frozen Orb + Fire Bolt Enchantment online from level 15. Crackling Energy for speed.

Necromancer A-tier leveling

Minion builds carry themselves. Bone Spear caster scales fast.

Barbarian B-tier leveling

Whirlwind and Thorns are forgiving. Slower than top 4 but safe.

Rogue B-tier leveling

Twisting Blades and Heartseeker work. High APM makes it harder for new players.

Druid C-tier leveling

Slowest early. Pulverize or Companion builds pick up around level 40.

Power Leveling

  • Pit Carry Main character clears Pit T65-70, low-level alt waits at entrance and absorbs full XP. Fastest method by a wide margin.
  • NMD Carry Alt sits at dungeon entrance while carrier clears. Slower than Pit carry, but still faster than solo.
  • Helltide Group Party stacking for +10% XP bonus. Safe and social. Pre-cap only.
  • Dungeon Train Rotating group through 2-3 dungeons non-stop. Decent for fresh seasonal start.

Paragon & Glyphs (Post-Cap)

Paragon unlocks at Level 60. You earn 4 Paragon Points per level past 60. The Paragon cap is 300 levels (1,200 Paragon Points). No source confirms Paragon changes in Lord of Hatred — only the character level cap moves (60 → 70).

Glyphs slot into Paragon boards and level via Nightmare Dungeon clears. Each NMD tier grants +2 Glyph XP, up to 202 at T100. At Rank 15 the radius expands to 4 nodes; at Rank 46 it expands to 5 nodes and unlocks a tertiary bonus. Glyph cap is 100. See the full Paragon guide for details.
