Skovos Isles — Birthplace of Humanity

By the DiabloBytes team · Updated April 2026 · Lord of Hatred / Season 13

Skovos is the new playable region debuting with Lord of Hatred — a chain of islands off the western coast of Nahantu, mythologized in Diablo lore as the birthplace of humanity. It's where Lilith and Inarius first created mortal life, and where Mephisto now seeks to corrupt the Pools of Creation to reshape humanity into weapons against the High Heavens. The region houses 8 waypoints, 11 dungeons, 3 strongholds, 30 Chronicles of Creation statues, and a new main city.

Day-1 launch coverage. Lord of Hatred launched April 28, 2026. The full waypoint and dungeon roster is still being mapped by the community. We'll update the named-location list as the full atlas stabilizes.

Region Overview

Skovos draws on Mediterranean coastal aesthetic — sea-themed monsters, stone-carved architecture, and a blend of volcanic and aquatic terrain. Eleven sub-regions radiate outward from Temis, the main hub city. Movement between zones uses standard waypoints.

The 11 Sub-Regions

Skovos is divided into 11 named sub-regions arranged across the island chain. Each contains its own waypoint(s), monster types, and Chronicles of Creation statues to discover.

Temis

Central hub city ruled by Queen Andreona. Vendors, stash, the Horadric Cube, and most quest-givers. Shi Yugong's Haven (the fishing dock) sits just east of town.

Philios

One of the four main outer islands of the historical Skovos chain. Coastal terrain with 5 Chronicles of Creation statues to find.

Cetos

Coastal sub-region adjacent to the central isles. Sea-themed encounters and fishing spots.

Lycander

One of the four main outer islands. Forested terrain with 5 Chronicles of Creation statues.

Athulua

Inland sub-region with 3 Chronicles of Creation statues. Mid-tier monster density.

Xanderos

Houses one of the three Skovos Strongholds (+100 Renown on clear).

Atanos

Sub-region with 6 Chronicles of Creation statues — the densest cluster in the region.

Saltwind

Houses one of the three Skovos Strongholds.

Celestia

Sub-region with 5 Chronicles of Creation statues. Mid-tier difficulty.

Cosmic Archives

Houses the third Skovos Stronghold. Lore-dense location.

Skartara

One of the four main outer islands. Volcanic terrain — lava pools here are the highest-value fishing spots in the region (chance at Legendary catches like the Molten Martyr). 6 Chronicles of Creation statues.

Strongholds (3 total)

Skovos contains three strongholds. Each clear awards +100 Renown plus Skovos Renown progress:

Xanderos

Stronghold in the Xanderos sub-region. Specific boss mechanics still being documented across launch week.

Saltwind

Stronghold in the Saltwind sub-region. Coastal-themed encounter.

Cosmic Archives

Lore-dense stronghold tied to the historical Skovos civilization. Houses unique encounter design.

Per-boss mechanic detail is still being mapped post-launch. We'll add specific boss telegraphs as community data stabilizes.

First Major Boss — Hateborn Abomination

The first major story boss of the expansion. A giant sea serpent created by Mephisto, the Hateborn Abomination boards your ship during the Hatred's Wake quest as your introduction to Skovos. The fight has two phases, summons Abyssal Serpents, and shifts to lightning-channel patterns at 50% HP.

Dungeons

The Skovos region contains 11 dungeons. Specific names are still being mapped — the full Skovos atlas is rolling out across launch week. Expect Nightmare Dungeon variants of these to enter the rotation as well.

Fishing — A New Respite Activity

Lord of Hatred introduces fishing as a casual side activity. Start at Shi Yugong's Haven, the dock east of Temis. You can cast lines into both water (rivers, ponds, the coast) and — uniquely — lava. The Skartara lava pools are the highest-value fishing spots in the region, with a chance at Legendary and Unique catches. Confirmed catch names include:

  • Darkling — water catch (used in the Favor for a Favor side quest)
  • Blue Scale — water catch
  • Molten Martyr — lava catch, lava-only, the highest-value confirmed catch

Catches feed multiple side-quest reward chains, including Favor for a Favor (Shi Yugong's request line) and The One That Got Away. There are 117 fish in total to catalog across Sanctuary, with the most exotic species pulled exclusively from Skovos waters and lava.

Waypoints

Skovos has eight waypoints, gradually unlocked as you progress the Lord of Hatred main campaign. Most areas are blocked off until the main quest reaches specific milestones — completing the campaign opens the full map. Waypoint names are still being mapped; we'll publish the full list as it stabilizes.

The Lore — Why Mephisto Targets Skovos

Skovos is canonically the place where Lilith and Inarius created humanity. The Pools of Creation — the same metaphysical fountain that gave humans free will — exist in Skovos to this day. Mephisto's plan in Lord of Hatred is to corrupt the Pools, reshaping humanity itself into weapons against the High Heavens. The expansion campaign sends you to Skovos to stop him before that corruption completes.

Skovos has been referenced in Diablo lore since Diablo II — it's the homeland of the Amazon class and was previously named in supplementary lore materials. Lord of Hatred is the first time players actually visit it in-game.
