Fishing in Skovos — Water and Lava Catches

Updated April 2026

Lord of Hatred adds fishing as a casual respite activity in the new Skovos Isles region. Unlike fishing systems in other ARPGs, D4's version lets you cast lines into both water AND lava — and the lava catches are markedly different (and rarer) than the water catches.

Day-1 launch coverage. The full fishing catch list, lure mechanics, and side-quest reward chains tied to fishing are still being mapped by the community. We've documented confirmed catches and core mechanics; expect updates as the activity is fully cataloged.

Where to Start

Head to Shi Yugong's Haven, a dock just east of the town of Temis. Shi Yugong introduces the activity and runs the Favor for a Favor quest line that asks you to bring back specific catches. From there, valid fishing spots are scattered across the islands — rivers, ponds, the coastline, and lava pools all work.

How Fishing Works

Approach a designated fishing spot, interact with the spot, and the fishing minigame begins. Successful catches enter your inventory as fish items, which can then be turned in to Shi Yugong and other NPCs for quest rewards. Per Blizzard, there are 117 fish total to catalog across Sanctuary — completing the catalog is a long-form collection goal.

Water vs Lava — Catch Differences

Standard water fishing produces crafting materials and tradeable fish. Lava fishing — most concentrated in the Skartara sub-region — has a chance at Legendary and Unique items, making it the highest-value fishing circuit in the game.

Confirmed Catches

Darkling

Water catch. One of the three named fish (with Koalodon and Silverbelly) Shi Yugong asks for in the Favor for a Favor side quest.

Blue Scale

Water catch.

Molten Martyr

Lava catch only — pulled from the lava pools of Skartara. The highest-value confirmed catch in the launch fishing pool.
