How to Go Fishing in Diablo 4
The Lord of Hatred expansion adds a new relaxing endgame activity that players can actually unlock early in the campaign.

Blizzard has introduced fishing as a new pastime in Diablo 4 with the Lord of Hatred expansion, offering players a relaxing alternative to demon-slaying. While described as an endgame activity, players can actually begin fishing early in their latest adventure by following a specific quest chain.
The addition marks a significant shift from typical Diablo gameplay loops, giving adventurers in Sanctuary a chance to unwind by bodies of water rather than constantly battling the forces of Hell. The feature includes its own progression system through the Tenacious Angler challenge checklist.
What Changed
Blizzard has implemented a complete fishing subsystem that integrates with existing game mechanics: - Unlocking requires traveling to Skovos and completing your initial quest in Temis city - A Priority Quest marker for Fishing appears east in the Philios region after Temis completion - Players meet fishing expert Shi Yugong who unlocks the Cast Fishing Line emote - The emote is automatically added to the Action Wheel under the Miscellaneous tab - Key binds can be assigned through the Controls tab in Options menu - Fish and other catches are stored in the Consumables menu with no weight limit - Each unique fish species has rarity variations that players can collect - First-time catches of each unique fish allow consumption to add to permanent collection (one-time only) - Progress tracked via Map screen > Collections tab > Challenges > Tenacious Angler checklist
What This Means for Players
The fishing system provides several practical benefits beyond its relaxing gameplay appeal. Catches have no weight penalty, meaning players can farm unlimited quantities without inventory concerns. Fish are valuable commodities that can be sold to merchants for profit or traded with other players to complete collections. The collection aspect encourages exploration across different regions, as certain fish species are exclusive to specific areas of Sanctuary. Players who want to complete the Tenacious Angler challenge will need to visit multiple bodies of water throughout the game world rather than farming a single location.
What's Next
Players who have already begun their Lord of Hatred journey should head to Skovos and complete Temis before seeking out the Philios region quest marker. The fishing emote is essential, so players without it automatically added should manually add it from the Miscellaneous tab in their Action Wheel Customize options.
